What this page does
Senior feeding uses factor 1.4 on resting energy. It is a lower planning number, not a diagnosis that the dog is senior.
Resting energy is 70 × kilograms^0.75. Daily calories multiply that by a factor: 1.6 neutered, 1.8 intact, 1.4 inactive, 1.0 weight-loss plan, 3 under four months, 2 older puppy, 2.5 working, 2 late pregnancy. Grams are daily calories ÷ kcal per 100 g × 100.
Worked example: 18 kg at factor 1.4 is about 857 kcal (612 × 1.4).
How the estimate works
Press Calculate after the weight and the bag number are in. Choosing a breed fills the middle of that breed’s typical adult weight. Change it if your dog is not average. The 18 kg example is only the default.
You type the kcal number from the bag you actually use. The site does not assume one brand.
This is not a prescription diet. Weight loss, pregnancy, and puppies need a clinic if the dog is unwell.
Limits
A cup is only as good as the gram weight you type. Scoops vary.
The same resting-energy formula is what a breed guide uses for its food section. The guide does not get its own URL for grams, calories, and water, because those would be this page with a name swapped in.
Where does the 1.6 come from?
Questions
It is a common multiplier on resting energy for a neutered adult dog. It is not a measurement of your dog’s metabolism.
